Tebis Unveils SmartOps: New CAD/CAM Process Automation Platform
What is SmartOps?
SmartOps acts as a process guide within the standard Tebis environment, leading users step by step through the entire CAD/CAM sequence—from importing CAD data, through blank measurement, clamping setup, strategy selection, toolpath generation, to NC output. Users can accept default settings or intervene when needed, providing a balance between automation and control.Key features include:
- Automation of repetitive tasks
- Flexible user overrides
- No requirement for scripting or programming knowledge
- Integration with existing Tebis modules and process libraries
- Modular and scalable configuration to match company needs
Benefits and Use Cases
SmartOps is particularly useful in environments where efficiency, consistency, and safety are paramount. By offloading recurring tasks, it reduces pressure on engineers and increases process reliability. One highlighted application is in electrode design and milling, where SmartOps can close ribs or handle complex geometries automatically. In a pilot deployment at Siebenwurst, SmartOps was used to continuously prepare and program parts in a mold manufacturing context—with positive feedback on usability and expected benefits
Workflow Architecture & Knowledge Capture
SmartOps is built on Tebis’s existing process libraries—machines, tools, strategies, and more—while maintaining its own configurable process library for automation. Tool direction optimization, parameter dialogs, and automated strategies can be updated or adjusted as needed, giving users the ability to fine‑tune workflows.Training is part of the rollout: Tebis offers a compact one‑week program to equip teams to use SmartOps for prismatic parts, and a preconfigured “tech package” helps companies deploy early automation routes.
Strategic Implications & Outlook
With SmartOps, Tebis aims to push CAD/CAM automation further into everyday manufacturing, lowering the barrier to entry especially for small and medium operations. The ability to automate without scripting is a distinct competitive edge.If broadly adopted, SmartOps could reduce cycle times, improve consistency across engineers, and accelerate digital transformation in mold, die, aerospace, and general machining sectors.
